NFL Tickets – Fantasy: Top 10 Tight Ends

Here are the Top 10 fantasy tight ends as I see them heading into the 2010 season, listed in order:
Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts: Clark was the best tight end in the fantasy game in 2009 and I expect him to be yet again in 2010. He hauled in an incredible 100 balls last season and is a major cog in the Indy offense. He’s got arguably the best quarterback in the game throwing him the ball, which doesn’t hurt either. He might not sell NFL tickets the way Antonio Gates does, but he’s the top tight end on my board this season.

Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers: Part of me wanted to put Gates atop this list, but Clark had 21 more catches and two more touchdowns last season, while Gates only managed to rack up 50 more yards. Gates should be an elite option at the position yet again in 2010. I expect him to actually see more targets than he did in 2009, but he might have a little trouble getting open at times with Vincent Jackson’s status in question.

Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers: Davis finally broke through in 2009 after several disappointing seasons to start his promising career, and he did it in a big way. Davis scored 13 touchdowns in 2009, and while I don’t think he’ll duplicate that total in 2010, he should be an elite option at tight end. The San Fran offense Brand Cialis seems to be improving and Davis proved to be quarterback Alex Smith’s favorite target. He might not crack double-digit TDs again, but Davis could very well notch his first 1,000-yard season in 2010.

Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys: He had a down year in 2009, but his down year included 94 catches and over 1,000 yards. He only scored twice, but don’t expect that to happen again. I think a lot of people are ranking him too low and owners that snag him will be glad they did.
Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons: I expect the entire Atlanta offense to have a bounce-back season. Gonzalez put up decent numbers in 2009, but I’d expect a small spike in 2010. He’s reliable and consistent, which is why I’m ranking him ahead of some of the younger guys on this list.

Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers: He reminds me a lot of Antonio Gates and I think 2009 would have been a breakout season had he not been injured. Finley plays in a very good offense that is only getting better and should be able to use his physical gifts to become one of the top tight ends in the game. There’s some risk involved with drafting him, which is why I have him sixth, but the reward could be massive.

Brent Celek, Philadelphia Eagles: A lot of people have him as a Top 5 tight end, but I’m not as bullish on Celek. There’s no way to know if Kevin Kolb is going to use him as much as Donovan McNabb did, or how well this Eagles offense will fare in Kolb’s first season at the helm. However, the potential for a big season is there.

Owen Daniels, Houston Texans: Daniels was the best tight end in fantasy before he tore his ACL in Week 8 last season. It’s hard to project how well he’ll come back for that injury this season, but his upside is huge for this spot on the list.

Kellen Winslow, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Winslow quietly had a really good 2009 season and avoided the injury bug for the first time in a while. His numbers actually improved last year when Josh Freeman took over, which bodes well for his 2010 prospects.

Zach Miller, Oakland Raiders: Miller could very well be the best pass-catcher on the Raiders, and now that they’ve got a capable quarterback, 2010 could be a breakout campaign for him.
